Margaret Wise Brown, the author of over forty books for children, including LITTLE FUR FAMILY, THE RUNAWAY BUNNY and BIG RED BARN was born May 23, 1910, in Brooklyn, New York. In 1932, she graduated from Hollins College in Virginia with a BA in English. After graduation, she worked as a teacher at Bank Street Experimental School. It was during this time that she began publishing children's books.
In 1940, Brown began a long-term relationship with Blanche Oelrichs. The relationship ended in 1950 with the death of Oelrichs.
In 1952, Brown became engaged to James Stillman Rockefeller Jr., but later that year, Brown died unexpectedly of an embolism.
